Perry Julien's passion for music and photography came together for the first time as a teenager photographing Led Zeppelin at Madison Square Garden. He now photographs for Creative Loafing Magazine and Stomp and Stammer Magazine as their contributing music photographer.

When not photographing music, Julien is often photographing to music, focusing his camera on intriguing people and shooting alternative fashion. His images reflect the creative interaction with the people he photographs. His work has been described as "a perspective leaving the viewer with unanswered questions and wanting to see more". He is continually seeking ways to push the boundaries of his photography and explore new ways to capture unique and compelling images.

Film and Panel Discussion - Great Women In Photography: Dorothea Lange...The Person and Her Impact

The program features a "sneak preview" from "Child of Giants," a new documentary by noted filmmaker, Tom Ropelewski. The film centers on Dorothea Lange and her impact on American Society, as seen through the eyes of her son, Daniel Dixon. Segments also include photographers Rondal Partridge and Christina Gardner. Ropelewski will introduce the film and offer insights on Daniel Dixon's relationship with this icon of photography.

A panel discussion will follow with John Dixon (Lange's son), Meg Partridge (Partridge's daughter) and Tom Ropelewski.

This event is a collaboration between ACP, Lumiere and the High Museum of Art and is in conjunction with an exhibition of the work of Dorothea Lange at Lumière that opens on Friday September 18th from 6:30 - 8:30pm.

Juror Fay Gold is one of the most respected contemporary art experts in the country. Ms. Gold selects outstanding images from submissions entered by APG members. Deadline for entries is Sept. 5th. This show represents diverse works of over thirty photographers. The Atlanta Photography Group is a non-profit arts organization whose goal is to provide a resource center for photographers, to support and advance creative photography, and promote photography as a fine art. APG hosts critiques, discussions and meetings every month at the gallery. These monthly meetings provide members with opportunities to receive valuable feedback on their work, discuss photography with their peers, and increase their knowledge of the photographic medium.

Ground Score traces the unpredictable course of a self-taught artist who was originally turned on to the practice of documentation while participating in the skate/punk scene of Austin in the early 1980s. Included in this trip are records from a 20-year obsession with traditional rail graffiti, a bike messenger’s eye view of San Francisco’s graffiti that presaged a movement called “The Mission School”, and a range of large-format work resulting from a science and myth-based appetite for apocalyptic landscapes.

Bill Daniel’s work is traditional silver-based and represents his conviction and dedication to pre/post digital photography. He is also known for his filmmaking, “Who is Bozo Texino?” and is the author of a book on rail graffiti, “Mostly True.”

The exhibition will feature many of her iconic photographs as well as other equally important, but less frequently shown ones, including a series from the Far East. Lange’s influence will be reflected in the work of her former assistant and long time advocate, Rondal Partridge. It will also be shown through the work of Ruth-Marion Baruch, whom she mentored.

Now in its seventh year, SlowExposures presents images from over 40 photographers that underscore the contradictions and complexity of the Rural South. 2009 jurors are Tim Barnwell of Asheville, NC and Annette Cone-Skelton of MOCA-GA. This year the main show and Jurors Talk are presented at the Candler Field Museum in Williamson, Georgia. Satellite shows, workshops, and other events are located throughout Pike County in historic venues. A Visitor's Map is available at the Candler Field Museum.

Jefferson Pinder's "Lazarus"

Washington DC-based video artist Jefferson Pinder exhibits his newest performance video, “Lazarus”. Pinder presents visually engaging video work as a form of quiet activism. The human experience is revealed as a poetic journey and beauty is often found in the mudane. Pinder’s work was most recently featured in the “After 1968” exhibition at the High Museum of Art in 2008.

In “Lazarus”, a huddled mass of pedestrians spring into action to collectively move a seemingly immobile vehicle. This impromptu tribe of activists forms an intense juggernaut as Pinder guides the force from the seat of the rusty powdered blue car.

This video piece is his latest installment of the Inertia Cycle series in which Pinder documents intense physical tasks as an abstract metaphor for social struggle.

LRLL RLRR drumming performance by Harrison Haynes

Harison Haynes, photographer / performance artist / drummer for the band Les Savy Fav, presents LRLL RLRR, in which he and a collaborator play the same drum beat continuously for two hours. The performance investigates where the production of music overlaps and/or is reciprocated by the production of art as well as the iconographic role of the drum set and the drummer in film, literature, pop culture and art.

With the development of blogs, Facebook, and Twitter, people are recording information at an extremely rapid pace, and the cell phone is the primary tool for approaching life with such immediacy. Combined with the power of the cell phone's instant abilities, this project, co-produced by Christian Bradley-West and Susan Todd-Raque, gives a forum for artists to speak visually in a way people have never been able to do so until now. The artistic process for these living diaries began in June 2009 and continued for 8 weeks. Participating artists are from across the U.S. and Europe.
