Water - A Photographic Exhibition
Georgia Perimeter College, Clarkston
Featuring work by: Zhou Ning
Exhibition Opening Reception: Fri, Oct 16, 5pm - 7pm
Since ancient time, water has served as an inspiration for philosophers and artists and as the source of creative expression:
"women are like water, which can dissolve any ideology of man...water can restrain fire and can eliminate the fire-like disaster...water that carries the boat, can also overturn the boat."
The word water is mysterious. Its movement or calmness creates endless opportunities to create emotionally charged images. The artist Zhou Ning grew up in a traditional Chinese culture, and his understanding and interpretation of water are founded in the interpretation of traditional Chinese literature and philosophy. The "waters" in his images were captured in countries around the world, and are of a magic coincidence and discovery.
The expression of his images are abstract, reflect the complexity of the manifestations of human nature, and allow you to sense a context of an eastern philosophy which interflows with western abstract images of the likes of Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse...
As you view the images of Zhou Ning, look, contemplate, and internalize the photographs as it flows from his interpretation of the world to yours.

GreenShot: Environmental Awareness Through Art
Emerging Art Scene at The Stacks
Featuring work by: Traci Browning, Julie Marateck
Exhibition: Fri, Oct 16 to Mon, Nov 30
Work By Julie Marateck: Over a two week period, I drove from California to Wyoming, crossing through Oregon, Washington, Montana and Idaho. The “Road Trip” is as an American tradition that symbolizes youth and adventure. I had so many artists and dreamers stuck in my mind during the journey, such as Jack Kerouac and Christopher McCandless from Into The Wild. It is the ultimate test of the journey being greater than the destination. My camera was the perfect companion.
GreenShot is a special photography series inspired by the call to action to live a Green life. It’s what I like to call “Eco-tography.” Nine stunning photographs inspired by this series. Each photograph has been printed in the highest quality on a bigger-than-life 30X50 canvas. We each must do our part to preserve the planet. Environmental awareness through Art. The ultimate Win/Win.

GreenShot: Environmental Awareness Through Art
Emerging Art Scene at The Stacks
Featuring work by: Traci Browning, Julie Marateck
Exhibition: Fri, Oct 16 to Mon, Nov 30
Work by Traci Browning: Much of my life has been spent in nature--walking the beach, swimming the ocean, horseback rides deep into the woods, and countless hikes in national parks across the entire US. The call of the outdoors has taken me on the road for six months of the last two years. One constant has always been a camera to document my adventures and share them with others. The intention of my work is first to preserve an image of a real place before it is ravaged with global warming and misuse, and second, to share these places with people that aren't aware of them yet. With GreenShot we are hoping to raise awareness and the desire to change our daily habits to lessen the impact on these precious places.

IN THE THICKET OF IT
whitespace
Featuring work by: Sally Heller
Exhibition: Fri, Oct 16 to Sat, Nov 21
Installation artist and photographer, Sally Heller, will create a landscape based on a thicket of trees. Made out of consumer detritus, low end products we use and discard, this landscape will examine the idea of density and how it relates to mass market culture. The thicket, composed of synthetic materials, reveals the glut of consumer waste while emptier spaces reveal nature's lingering frailty and impermanence.
With this installation is a series of photographs based on previous installations. Resembling abstract paintings, these works capture the energy of the installations yet have their own identities; the images are taken in mirrored mylar which distorts and alters their reality.

Photographer Jerry Siegel documents the Black Belt region of the American South with an unflinching gaze. From decaying urban areas to backwater diners and pool halls, Siegel exposes the cultural values of a region characterized by extreme poverty, rural exodus, and community pride. His determined eye reveals unexpected depths in his subjects, inviting viewers to ‘come and set a spell’ in the company of his images. Judith Pishnery: City Nights - Beyond the Glass
Pisconeri Studio
Featuring work by: Judith Pishnery
Online Exhibition: Tue, Oct 20 to Mon, Nov 30
Judith Pishnery's newest project City Nights – Beyond the Glass captures the elusive, quiet mystery of the night, while peering into other lives, secretly wishing for something more to happen. The cover of night and the illumination from within breaks down the barriers, allowing us to intrude into the mystery beyond the glass. The graphic nature of the architecture compartmentalizes and isolates the individual scenes. This project begins to explore human nature to look, to observe, to be a voyeur, when no one is watching us, in the anonymity of the city night.
