Post-Documentary Chinese Photography

Georgia Perimeter College, Clarkston
Featuring work by: Lu Heng, Lu Ning, Zou Shenwu, Wang Yishu, Fu Yu

: Fri, Oct 16, 5pm - 7pm

A group of five young Chinese photographers have had unusual influence in the world of documentary photography in China. Chinese critics have named the collective movement "Post-Documentary Chinese Photography."

Chinese post-documentary photography exhibits the interplay between the photographer's inner vision and perceived reality as expressed through a photographic image while documentary photography captures the reality and the existence of life in a specific culture or location. Documentary photography has played an important role by recording an objective image of reality that has spurred social change and provided a foundation for the research of anthropology, history, sociology and cultural studies.

It is the intent that the images of the Chinese post-documentary photographer will provide visual evidence to explain a more personal reality which reveals the photographer's internal most worlds.
