Horizons and Intersections

This exhibit features a series of black and white and minimal color landscapes from the western U.S., layered to create immediate depth and to suggest infinite distance. These photos, often taken through a car window while whizzing past southwestern deserts and northern forests, form a complex image fused by merging digital photos into one visual frame. This is time collapsed, an "all at once" view of a sequence of images of the same horizon---images that change only with the photographer's position.

Exhibition: Mon, Sep 29, to Fri, Oct 31 2014

Some of my photographs are constructed images where I consciously decide what to discard and what to keep. Other images are simply my documentation of what I see as being notable, whether it is good, bad or something I realize is impermanent and will be seen by others only if I take the time to save it in the small way I can. The pieces I make have particular meaning to me, but I understand other people will see them in their own way. My photographs are not necessarily created to illustrate or provide answers. If anything, I would like for my images to generate more questions. I do not see them as endpoints, but rather starting places where I give the viewer ideas to ponder and allow room for their imagination to create the rest of the story. - Frank Hamrick

The eyes are the windows to the soul and if you peer within you can see a person's truth. A photograph. like the eyes, can reflect a photographer's soul. Each image a direct link to the psyche. How does one view the world? How is life reflected through the lens? What does one want the world to know, see or think about them? How does what one photographs reflect life, feelings and spirit?

In this exhibit, Sistagraphy invites you to peer into the psyche of our membership. Look deeply within our images. The images you see on these walls speak louder than any artist talk. Tread carefully, the soul is a very vulnerable place.

Linda Costa Cheranichit

Aviation Community Cultural Center
Featuring work by: Linda Costa Cheranichit

Exhibition: Fri, Oct 24, to Fri, Feb 20 2015

As part of their Passport to the Arts series The Aviation Community Cultural Center presents their second ever photographic exhibition, "Transcend", the newest body of work by Brazilian born light painting photographer Linda Costa Cheranichit. Here the Atlanta based artist tackles complex memories and emotions connected to flight and her life experience of immigrating to the USA as a child with only her mother and brother, leaving her father and other family behind. Coming to America via plane at the age of 9 without returning until she was 16, the photographer uses her distinct memories of leaving and returning home to explore emotions ranging from longing to fulfillment, sorrow to elation, through her particular light painted long exposure photographs. Her unique light paintings evoke magic and their colorful bold effects are born the moment each photograph is created via special lighting techniques, not cooked up in Photoshop. By delving into the imagery and fantasy of her work the artist seeks to heal herself and others who have tasted the double edged predicament of feeling joy in returning to one's homeland and culture, only to suffer the pain each time of leaving your loved ones behind once more.
