Carl Martin and Chris Verene: Affinities

A visual conversation between Chris Verene and Carl Martin. Each of the 27 photographs on display is a trove of hundreds of discrete photographic facts which encourage a closer look at the elements that humans share, as well as those they don’t. By mapping the relationships between these two significant contemporary photographers and a selection of their subjects, this exhibition explores authenticity based on the unconstructed image, the visceral way things just are, the incongruencies and the aliveness.

Artists Talk: Thu, Oct 9, 7pm - 8:30pm

Get a rare look at the important work being done by some of the world's finest photojournalists. Eugene Richards, a 2013 recipient of a Getty Grant for Editorial Photography, will be speaking about his work. He will be joined by Aidan Sullivan, the Vice President of Getty Images Assignments.

How does a Reportage photographer for Getty Images get where they are today? What are the most important things to consider when telling a story through photographs? How are photographers picked for assignments? How is photojournalism adapting to the changes taking place in photography today?

Eugene Richards has been the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Award, the Kraszna-Krausz Book Award and the Robert F. Kennedy Lifetime Achievement Award for coverage of the disadvantaged.
