Birth of a Red Planet
Hagedorn Foundation Gallery
Featuring work by: Peter Bahouth

Exhibition: Thu, Nov 13, to Wed, Dec 3 2014

Peter Bahouth (b. 1955, Syracuse) known for his exploration of stereoscopic photography and its presentation in sculptural viewers introduces a new narrative format to his series. His latest project is a take on the Fifties’ View Master sci-fi tale “Adventures of Sam Sawyer,” and was aesthetically inspired by Florence Thomas the largely unknown creator of miniature dioramas made and photographed for View Master. The artist has reworked the earlier fiction into his contemporary “Henry and the Birth of the Red Planet,” about a boy who flees earth because of the dangerous environment that has developed here. Like the earlier series, Bahouth’s has 7 finely crafted high chroma miniature sets – one for each major event in the advancing narrative - meticulously designed and constructed in his studio.

Based in Atlanta, the artist has exhibited his stereoscopic work at numerous venues, including Jackson Fine Art and Marcia Wood Gallery, Atlanta; The Flow Art Fair, Miami; Pulse Art Fair, NY; Kenise Barnes Fine Art in Larchmont, NY, and the University of Southern Florida Museum of Contemporary Art’s exhibition, "Stereo Vision" which included works by Rochelle Costi, Chuck Close and Bahouth, among many others. In 2004 he was awarded the Atlanta Celebrates Photography Public Arts Project.
