ACP Lecture Series Presents: Graciela Iturbide
Woodruff Arts Center
Featuring work by: Graciela Iturbide

Lecture: Thu, Oct 23, 7pm - 8:30pm

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

Widely celebrated as among the most significant contemporary photographers of Mexico, Graciela Iturbide has developed a rich body of work over four decades, inspired largely by a fascination with everyday life in her home country. Mentored for many years by Manuel Álvarez Bravo, her work has consistently explored the urban/rural dichotomy, while examining the intersection of tradition and rituals with Mexico's modernity.

Iturbide's photographic career has relied on the strength of her personal relationship to her subjects. A decade-long project yielded her quintessential photobook , Juchitán of Women (1989) which looked at the legendary Zapotec city well-known for its matriarchal social structure.

She has won the W. Eugene Smith prize for photography in 1987 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1988. In 2008 she received the Hasselblad Foundation Photography Award. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is included in many major museum collections including those of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the High Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Presented in partnership with the High Museum of Art, sponsored by Mailchimp.

This program is free, however seating is limited and must be reserved through the Woodruff Arts Center Box Office at 404-733-5000. Limit 2 tickets per person. Tickets to the Museum are sold separately.
