Xchange Gallery at The Arts Exchange
Featuring work by: The Arts Exchange Studio Artists

Opening Reception: Fri, Sep 12, 7pm - 9pm

Exhibition: Fri, Sep 12, to Sat, Oct 25 2014

Photography +

Photography+ exhibits the work of the multicultural, multidisciplinary, inter-generational studio artists at the Arts Exchange, a community cultural center in southeast Atlanta, serving the arts community for 30 years.

Traditional photographic mediums, mixed mediums using photographic techniques and other art mediums not using photography but responding to the idea of photography will create a visual dialogue between the works, essentially addressing the question of photography as simply another tool for artists or a separate means of expression.

This is also the annual studio artists exhibit of the Arts Exchange which has chosen the theme of photography to focus on the studio photographers while challenging traditional and conceptual artists to thoughtfully and visually engage in an exploration of how photography impacts art.

Artists participating in the exhibit include Jim Alexander, John Brandhorst, Marc Brotherton, Connie Cross, Craig Drennen, Elyse Defoor, Phyllis Free, Ben Goldman, Dana Gray, Anna Hamer, Billy Howard, Laura Kearney, Mark Leibert, Laurie Shock, Preston Thomas, and Lisa Tuttle.

In addition to the Opening Reception and Artist's Talk, the Arts Exchange will host an Open House and studio tours on Sunday, September 21, from 2 to 6pm.

Artists Talk: Sat, Oct 11, 2pm - 4pm

Behind The Lens

Women In Focus is a non-profit artist-initiated organization of women photographers who have joined together to support and promote the photographic arts. It was founded in 1993 by a group of women who recognized the need for a formal network of women photographers who could assist in each others' personal, professional, and artistic growth. Women In Focus has become a thriving organization whose diverse membership includes photographic artists ranging from beginners to seasoned professionals, all brought together by their passion for photography. Women In Focus values each individual member for the unique contributions that she brings to the organization and strives to provide all members with the resources that they need to thrive as artists. Women In Focus is dedicated to facilitating a forum for open dialogue regarding photography in all of its forms. Educational programs address both technical proficiency and scholarship by incorporating lectures, workshops, and critiques and by covering topics relating to the history and business of photography as well as the creation of images. Women In Focus engages in community activity by hosting events all around Atlanta. The scope of the group's activities is further extended past the geographical area of its home base through an Internet presence and joint projects with women photographers around the world.
