Horizons and Intersections

This exhibit features a series of black and white and minimal color landscapes from the western U.S., layered to create immediate depth and to suggest infinite distance. These photos, often taken through a car window while whizzing past southwestern deserts and northern forests, form a complex image fused by merging digital photos into one visual frame. This is time collapsed, an "all at once" view of a sequence of images of the same horizon---images that change only with the photographer's position.

A Glimpse (Mtazamo)
Featuring work by: Katie Nelson

Exhibition: Tue, Sep 30, to Sat, Nov 1 2014

Eighteen year old Katie Nelson is not your typical teenager. Having visited three continents and ten countries, Katie finds traveling to be her second home. Her strong desire to be a global citizen allows her the chance to explore new cultures and seize new adventures. As a budding photojournalist, Katie captures her travels through the lens of her camera. In addition to the physical pictures, she enjoys sharing her stories and lessons she has learned. Katie visited Tanzania and spent time documenting her five day hike up Mount Kilimanjaro, meeting with the people of Tanzania and seeing the vistas that are home to many types of African wildlife. Katie’s exhibit, “A Glimpse (Mtazamo),” reflects on the appreciation of iconic African wildlife and brings awareness to both the triumphs and adversities of the people of Tanzania.
