ACP Public Art: THE FENCE
Atlanta Beltline's Eastside Trail

Exhibition: Fri, Aug 15, to Sat, Nov 1 2014

This acclaimed ACP program typically features temporary projects in a variety of diverse locations throughout Atlanta. It is significant in its ability to reach beyond the audience of traditional art venues and for its ability to expand the way its audience considers and perceives photography and “lens-based” media.

This year ACP is bringing THE FENCE project to Atlanta in a 1st-time partnership between ACP, United Photo Industries (of NY) and the Atlanta BeltLine. The Fence 2014 is an outdoor exhibition of images juried from an international call for entries. This year the FENCE will be simultaneously exhibited in three locations: Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York, NY; Rose F. Kennedy Greenway in Boston, MA; and on The Atlanta Beltline, where there'll be a 600-foot long installation!

Topophilia: Genius Loci
Arnall Golden Gregory
Featuring work by: Stephanie Dowda

Artists Reception: Thu, Oct 2, 6pm - 8pm

Topophilia is a photography project which explores the powerful sensations humans experience from natural environments. Inspired by the geography theory topophilia, as defined by Yi-Fu Tuan, the natural world holds emotions and memories which are experienced by humans. Photographer Stephanie Dowda intentionally manipulated her medium format film camera to become a vessel to capture the sensation from natural places like state and natural parks which preserve the land’s history. Topophilia seeks to understand these intangible sensations and share them through a transference of energy and elements from place, to film, and finally to the silver that holds light for the viewer.
