Artists Atelier of Atlanta
Featuring work by: Jan Lewin

Exhibition: Sun, Sep 1, to Thu, Oct 31 2013

This exhibit is comprised of mixed media pieces inspired by photographs taken in India during the artist's stay in winter 2013 at the Nek Chand Rock Garden in Chandigarh, India. The artist, Jan Lewin, was one of two Americans chosen for a four-week artists' residency in the visionary folk art garden, created by world-renown, outsider artist, Nek Chand. The 36-acre garden was inspired and built at the direction of Nek Chand, Today, the garden is a journey through a magical fantasy land with thousands of mosaic sculptures, waterfalls, meandering paths and rock walls. It is visited by as many as 5,000 tourists a day. Lewin, a life-long artist, was inspired by the mosaics, vivid colors and textures of India to produce textural tablets imbedded with transferred and manipulated digital photographs. The colors and textures are meant to simulate the mosaics, white wash, concrete and plaster walls found throughout the country. The Artists' Atelier, where Lewin is participating artist, is a working artists' studio and gallery located on Miami Circle in Buckhead.

Opening Reception: Sun, Oct 6, 1pm - 4pm

Please join us for the Opening Reception of Passages, an exhibit of multi-media pieces created by photographer and artist, Jan Lewin. The pieces, which mimic the many textures and colors found in India, are inspired by a recent artists' residency in Chandigarh, India, at the Nek Chand Rock Garden, where she spent six weeks creating mosaic sculptures and archiving the life-long records of world-renown, visionary folk artist, Nek Chand.

SANCTUARY: Palladium Prints by Timothy H. McCoy
The Cultural Arts Center of Douglasville/Douglas County
Featuring work by: Timothy McCoy

Exhibition: Thu, Oct 3, to Fri, Oct 25 2013

Timothy McCoy attended Boston’s School of the Museum of Fine Arts and has studied with Frederick Sommer, Dick Arentz, Joyce Tenneson and John Sexton. He has exhibited widely throughout the U.S., most recently at The Gallery at Penn College, Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

“Sanctuary” is one of those archaic, archetypal structures inherent in the human mind, rather than being based on personal experiences. Sanctuary embodies hope and refuge in response to fear and loss—here seen through the lens of time. The unconventional beauty of the alternative photographic process of palladium printing on translucent vellum underscores the archetypal symbols referenced in this work.

Opening Reception: Thu, Oct 3, 6pm - 8pm

Artists Reception: Sun, Oct 6, 3pm - 5pm

Gallery Talk & Tour

During the exhibit, the artist will offer a demonstration of the antique printing process and use of his large format camera, an 8 by 10 inch Deardorff field camera.
