Juvenile-In-Justice: Photographs by Richard Ross
Kennesaw State University: Sturgis Library Art Gallery
Featuring work by: Richard Ross

Exhibition: Tue, Oct 9, to Thu, Nov 1 2012

Richard Ross spent five years interviewing and photographing juveniles in the justice system.  He visited and documented over 350 detention and correction facilities, treatment centers, group homes, police departments, juvenile courtrooms, shelters, interview rooms, and maximum-security lock-down and non-lock-down shelters.  The resulting photographs reveal the realities and hardship of daily life for incarcerated minors.  A group of these photographs were published in Harper’s Magazine and were awarded the prestigious 2012 National Magazine Award for News and Documentary Photography.  The raw power of this work is certain to stimulate valuable conversation and debate.

Juvenile-in-Justice:  Photographs by Richard Ross was organized by the Nevada Museum of Art where it had the exclusive sponsorship of the Wilhelm Hoppe Family Trust.  At Kennesaw State University, the work is presented in conjunction with the Center for Sustainable Journalism and the KSU student chapter of the Society for Professional Journalists, and supported by the Student Activities and Budget Advisory Committee (SABAC).

In addition to the hours listed below, the exhibition is open Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7-9 p.m. and is closed on University and public holidays.
