Exhibition: Sat, Sep 15, to Sat, Oct 27 2012
The Xchange Gallery presents Elyse Defoor's multi-media, photography-based installation "The Wedding Dress Project," curated by Atlanta artist Jaynie Crimmins. Defoor’s work continually explores the many forms - hidden and exposed - of the feminine body and spirit. In her investigations of revealment and concealment, Defoor provokes simple questions that open to infinite complexities. How do we appear to others? Why do we cover ourselves? How do costumes reflect and deflect the world? In The Wedding Dress Project, Defoor considers the nuptial vestment as human artifact, charged by the hopes and dreams of the women who wore them. Through her intimate portrayals, Defoor evokes inner and outer dialogue that only begins at the concept of marriage.
