Jill Ediger

East and West
Montaluce Winery & Le Vigne Restaurant
Featuring work by: Jill Ediger, Richard Ediger

Exhibition: Sat, Sep 1, to Tue, Nov 27 2012

Serenity may arise from multiple directions. For those drawn to eastern cultures, quiet steps though a verdant Zen garden may be their path to serenity. For others, the dramatic vistas at the western ocean’s edge may be the route to stillness. The East and West exhibition at the Montaluce Winery and Le Vigne Restaurant in Dahlonega provides a small sampling of each. Jill Ediger takes the eastern road, while Richard Ediger looks west.

For those pulled to the East, the gravel paths of the manicured garden twist and turn, opening up intimate corners of green and gray. This is the atmosphere for considering, for contemplating, for pondering.

Traversing to the West, it is Magic Time on the edge of the sea when the enveloping morning fog begins to dissipate. Serenity arises from the intersection of land, sea, and sky that is devoid of Man’s footsteps.

East and West is a celebration of mystic moments that capture our senses. They may be intimate visions of forested beauty or may be the far-seeing vista at the border between land, sea, and sky. Walk either path and perhaps find the key to serenity's door.

Affection for Xinjiang
Deans Hall Gallery, Building SA, Georgia Perimeter College
Featuring work by: Yan Li (curator), Huo Wei, Chen Yuan-ming

Exhibition: Sat, Sep 1, to Wed, Oct 31 2012

Two photographers look at different aspects of Xinjiang China. The Kirghiz falcons and the 3000-year-old cottonwoods are explored. Chen Yuan-ming explores a thrilling "ground war" was held in Sumutashi Township, the "falcon town" of Akqi County in Xinjiang, China. Falcon domestication of Kirghiz tribe has a long history, and now Akqi County retains approximately 2000 falcons and large birds of prey. Photographer Huo Wei focuses on that which is the most keenly felt as the apocalypse of every religion - life and death. But when one sees those intertwined cottonwoods, living and dead, new young shoots emerge from the dead, only this rebirth of things is of the highest standard, and all individuals seem to pale in comparison. Ah! Cottonwoods are said to live for three thousands years, to stand three thousand more after their death, and to remain unchanged upon the ground for three thousand more after having fallen. How grand!

Presented by High Noon Culture.

Curiosity in the Mundane
Georgia Perimeter College
Featuring work by: Paul Sternberg

Exhibition: Sat, Sep 1, to Fri, Nov 9 2012

There is no pretense of grandiosity in my work. I just try to have fun and offer a little insight through snapshots and musings on the perfectly ordinary sights that scroll through my days. I relish the pictures that are so easy to miss - like a sun-accented figure in a plowed mound of melting snow. Or skew focus on a section of discarded ductwork that begs for a cheeky title. It's all a measure of serendipity and whimsy. Hopefully, there is a texture to be savored in each.
