David Simonton: Selections from The Ellis Island Portfolio
A Novel Experience
Featuring work by: David Simonton

Exhibition: Fri, Sep 16, to Sat, Oct 29 2011

From 1892 through 1954 more than 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island, America's immigration station located in New York Harbor. In 1988, David Simonton was invited to participate in the Ellis Island Project: Documentation/Interpretation. From September 1988 to June 1989 David had complete access to the island's 33 buildings in exchange for pictures documenting the restoration. His moving images reflect what he calls "a perfect synergy: an incredible subject, buildings steeped in history, beautiful light, and a project that encouraged interpretation." Join us in welcoming David to A Novel Experience during the opening weekend of the SlowExposures Photography Festival.
