Candida Höfer
ACA Gallery of SCAD, Woodruff Arts Center
Featuring work by: Candida Höfer

Exhibition: Fri, Sep 10, to Thu, Oct 21 2010

The SCAD exhibitions department presents an exhibition of photographs by German-born artist Candida Höfer. The selected works portray monumental interiors of cultural public spaces such as libraries, museums, theaters and palaces that are at once unoccupied and yet hauntingly affected by their former inhabitants. In careful compositions that are formally alluring, infinitely detailed and luminous with light, Höfer’s photographs transcend pure documentation and heighten our perceptions of time and space.
The exhibition and reception are held in conjunction with Atlanta Celebrates Photography and SCAD’s second annual deFINE Art Festival.

On Assignment: Photographs of Robert W. Woodruff
Schatten Gallery | Corridor Gallery
Featuring work by: Jay Leviton

Exhibition: Thu, Oct 14

Jay B. Leviton is an Atlanta-based photographer. After serving two stints in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, Leviton settled in Atlanta and began to work as a professional photographer for a wide range of corporate clients and publications, including Forbes and Sports Illustrated. His photographs of Elvis Presley were published in the 1988 book, Elvis Close-Up: Rare, Intimate Photographs of Elvis Presley in 1956.

ON ASSIGNMENT features photographs, selected by Leviton, of Robert W. Woodruff, the longtime head of The Coca-Cola Company. These compelling images demonstrate Leviton’s keen ability to reveal aspects of Woodruff’s multifaceted character not often captured by other photographers.

ON ASSIGNMENT is part of the larger exhibition, The Future Belongs to the Discontented: The Life and Legacy of Robert W. Woodruff which presents an informative and illuminating portrait of Atlanta’s most successful businessman and most generous philanthropist.

Hours: Schatten Gallery is open during regular library hours. Please call or check website prior to your visit, as hours vary throughout the year.

Other: Thu, Oct 21, 6pm - 7pm

Prayer Flags
Wing & A Prayer Studio
Featuring work by: Corinne Adams

Studio Open House: Thu, Oct 21, to Sat, Oct 23 2010

Traditionally, prayer flags promote peace, compassion, strength and wisdom. These photographic prayer flags, strung in and outside the studio, share the spirit and love of the Nicaraguan people I have come to know through multiple mission trips. See the faces, hear the stories and feel the good will. Enjoy a market of marvelous items sewn by my Nicaraguan friends (embroidered T-shirts, pillows, purses, recycled bags and more), with all proceeds returning to their village. Of course, there's more: a wide range of photography, mixed media images and lots of surprises (recycled glass jewelry!) within this pastoral Buckhead studio, tucked in the woods behind Sardis United Methodist Church. Wing & A Prayer Studio, located at 3725 Powers Ferry Road, off Roswell Road, one block north of the Piedmont-Roswell intersection.

Photo Opportunities
Wm Turner Gallery
Featuring work by: Corinne Vionnet

Exhibition: Thu, Oct 21, to Sat, Nov 27 2010

We travel, see a monument and take a picture. But so are millions of others.

Corinne Vionnet's work is a compilation of snapshots, collected and compressed into a oneness of time and place. They are transcended beyond the souvenirs of record to breathe life into the static memory of location.

She therefore creates the true definitive record of of these locations, unique to all the monuments represented and a testament to the enduring familiarity.
