WPA...working photographic allegory
Moon Gallery
Featuring work by: Nancy VanDevender

Exhibition: Mon, Sep 20, to Fri, Oct 15 2010

Using traditions employed in fieldwork assigned to photographers during the WPA, genres of photography are introduced as a framework for analyzing events that historically have transformed contemporary thought through public and silent protest. Documentary, portrait, still life, and landscape mirror political achievements and social change.

This is a yearlong project in three parts marking the 75th anniversary of the Works Progress Administration. "WPA...workers performing alliances" will take place on the promenade adjacent to Morehouse College, the inaugural exhibition of Contemporary On Wheels. "WPA...we provide art, Black Market Projects" begins at the semiannual Open Studios at Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Studio 7 on October 9. Collectively these events support the power of intimacy to bring about change. The use of invitational curating on a micro scale intends to give another perspective of works progress through an equitable equation.
