TWIN KITTENS
Featuring work by: Cody VanderKaay

Exhibition: Sat, Oct 16, to Sat, Nov 13 2010

“A billboard is often seen as an invasive ubiquitous structure; with it's content disappearing in contrast to it's dimension. Some see geography in the same light, limiting their view of the world to the small space in front of them.” -Cody VanderKaay

Cody VanderKaay’s most recent photographic works feature expansive desert landscapes that have miniature billboards temporarily imposed into the picture frame. Positive affirmations have been transcribed onto the billboards. These small constructions create the illusion that they are monumental structures in contrast to the serene landscape.

Joshua Tree National Park remains minimally unaffected and uninterrupted
by human activity making the location specific for this body of work.

Cody VanderKaay is an artist, educator, skater, and cyclist with a fondness for mountains and deserts. A Master of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture, he lives in Michigan and is focused on sustainable practices in the studio. The rest of the time he shapes parable-like quotes, writes campy stories, and collaborates with friends. He also enjoys maximizing happiness.

Prayer Flags
Wing & A Prayer Studio
Featuring work by: Corinne Adams

Studio Open House: Thu, Oct 21, to Sat, Oct 23 2010

Traditionally, prayer flags promote peace, compassion, strength and wisdom. These photographic prayer flags, strung in and outside the studio, share the spirit and love of the Nicaraguan people I have come to know through multiple mission trips. See the faces, hear the stories and feel the good will. Enjoy a market of marvelous items sewn by my Nicaraguan friends (embroidered T-shirts, pillows, purses, recycled bags and more), with all proceeds returning to their village. Of course, there's more: a wide range of photography, mixed media images and lots of surprises (recycled glass jewelry!) within this pastoral Buckhead studio, tucked in the woods behind Sardis United Methodist Church. Wing & A Prayer Studio, located at 3725 Powers Ferry Road, off Roswell Road, one block north of the Piedmont-Roswell intersection.

Photo Opportunities
Wm Turner Gallery
Featuring work by: Corinne Vionnet

Exhibition: Thu, Oct 21, to Sat, Nov 27 2010

We travel, see a monument and take a picture. But so are millions of others.

Corinne Vionnet's work is a compilation of snapshots, collected and compressed into a oneness of time and place. They are transcended beyond the souvenirs of record to breathe life into the static memory of location.

She therefore creates the true definitive record of of these locations, unique to all the monuments represented and a testament to the enduring familiarity.

Public Art and Photography: a workshop and panel discussion
Serenbe Photography Center

Workshop: Sat, Oct 23, 9:30am - 12pm

How can you, as a photographer, undertake a public art project? Or how do you, as a commissioning organization, think about photography as a public art medium?

Join us for a presentation of local, national and international public art projects – both temporary and long-term – which incorporate lens-based art in innovative ways. A visual presentation of traditional and non-traditional approaches to public art practice and photography will be followed by a panel discussion among photographers, artists who use photography, curators, fabricators and administrators. Learn about some of the many opportunities, resources, materials and vendors available to photographers in the public art field.

Free workshop, open to photographers and artists of all levels of experience, arts organizations, and anyone with a general interest in the field (reservations required by October 21). Followed by networking and optional box lunch.

The work of three different artists from different countries with similar visions, but different outcomes. Dina Bova from Israel, Dominique Laugé from France, and Erol Oran from the USA. not only reflect their surrounding worlds, but the world of dreams, what may be or may not be, and what truly is or is not. This world is sometimes absurd and paradoxical, sometimes strange and surreal, sometimes delicate and all accepting, but this world is a reflection of human feelings or the absence thereof, brought out by the artform of each of these accomplished artists:
