Wing & A Prayer Studio
Featuring work by: Corinne Adams

Studio Open House: Thu, Oct 20, to Sat, Oct 22 2011

I've been attracted to words and typography since my first job as a newspaper reporter. Years later, I ponder their power ("blood"), their mystery ("grace"), their humor ("critter"), their cultural buzz ("dude"), their indefinite nature ("truth"), their graphic beauty ("lollipop") and their general ability to clarify and confound.

So I am dedicating my studio to the WORD. I'm photographing words in the landscape...creating new abstract imagery from letters and word shapes...and inviting you to participate by placing YOUR WORDS on my studio walls. I wonder what we will uncover. What will make us laugh? Will we see things differently? Will we have fun? How does this wordplay make us feel? Let's find out.

(Traditionally, in the world of hip-hop, the word "up" succeeds the word "word." This combination of what seems like two unrelated words is a form of affirmation or enthusiasm that says, "Yeah, that's right!")

The Dog Park Photographs

Exhibition: Thu, Oct 20, to Sun, Nov 6 2011

The concept of any dog park begins as a meeting ground where people come together to socialize and exercise their dogs. In their attentions to their animals, dog owners themselves are socialized and shaped in turn. These images of people and their dogs reflect the often fierce connection that is formed between humans and animals, offering visual narratives of relationships and a collective portrait of a community.

ACP Film Fest: Still Motion
The Goat Farm Arts Center
Featuring work by: Various Artists

Film Screening: Fri, Oct 21, 7pm - 9pm

From mobile-phones to HD-SLRs, lenses are capturing moving images at an unprecented rate. Cameras dedicated to taking still images are now doubling as hybrid machines capable of high-resolution video. Following an open call for submissions, Andy Ditzler of Frequent Small Meals, Blake Williams of Proper Medium, and ACP have selected a unique, inspiring, provocative evening screening of videos shot with still cameras.

These videos uncover the "edge of motion", where the traditional shutter-click is now capable of creating something far beyond a single frame. In addition to the open call, the curators will be selecting some of the finest examples of the genre from around-the-globe. Traditionally viewed within the confines of a computer screen, the evening will present a unique chance to view these videos in a film-fest format, with a live audience at The Goat Farm Arts Center.

A cash award for "best in show" from the open call will be awarded by Guest Jurors Tom Brown, Vice President of Original Productions for Turner Classic Movies, and Michael Kochman, Creative Director, Turner Image Management.

For details, see the Call for Entries, and submit your video for consideration.

ACP Public Art Presents: "Volley" from Monica Cook
The Goat Farm Arts Center
Featuring work by: Monica Cook

Other: Fri, Oct 21, 7pm - 9pm

The Public Art Project for ACP will be a sound activated, interactive animation (stop motion/claymation) by Monica Cook Monica Cook's first stop-motion animation video "Deuce" was selected by the Guggenheim Museum as one of 25 works featured in the "YouTube Play. A Biennial of Creative Video." The global online initiative is a joint venture of the Guggenheim and YouTube, in collaboration with HP, and aims "to discover and showcase the most exceptional talent working in the ever-expanding realm of online video." Cook's work was selected from more than 23,000 videos submitted.

Her work “Volley” commissioned by ACP and co-sponsored by Flux Projects, will explore human-animal interface: Interspecies communication; animals as totems and deities in early human cultures, etc.

This animation will be activated by the sound of the audience's applause. In order for the animation to play, clapping must continue, once it ceases the visuals stop. The participation with the audience is key, they must give in order to receive, yet, if something appears slightly questionable to be applauding they must decide to continue to partake or withdrawal, knowing that they could be equally judged if their interest overrides their ideology.

This project will debut at FLUX on Sept. 30th
101 Centennial Olympic Park Drive SW
Atlanta, GA 30313

ACP Photobook Fair
Piedmont Park Community Center
Featuring work by: Various Artists

Other: Sat, Oct 22, 9am - 1pm

ACP is one of the first organizations to hold a photobook fair featuring self-published photobooks. Our third Photobook Fair will be bigger and better than ever. This event offers photographers an opportunity to show (and sell) their self-published books, and offers the public an opportunity to see (and purchase) these rare, limited-edition objects.

Photography Books are more popular than ever - and the fastest growing segment of photography books are those that are self published. With an ever growing selection of ways to publish your own book, photographers are now able to realize projects that are meant to be seen in sequence, or that translate best in book form. The only downside is that there aren't many avenues for getting your books seen outside of your circle of friends. Do not miss this rare opportunity to see these extremely limited edition works of art!

Special Exhibitors include:

Timothy Archibald

ACP Collaboration Presents: Timothy Archibald
Emory University
Featuring work by: Timothy Archibald

: Fri, Oct 28, 7pm - 9pm

ECHOLILIA: The spectrum of childhood and the documentation of a relationship; photographs by father and son.

Timothy Archibald, celebrated San Francisco based commercial photographer, struggled to connect with his five-year old firstborn, Eli (the tension in their home was palpable) until Timothy started looking at his son through his camera. Together, the two orchestrated a portrait series that depicts dreamy, intimate images not only of Eli, but of childhood itself, riddled as it is with mystery and fantasy. In doing so, Archibald documents the burgeoning of a newly charted relationship with his son. Through their creative collaboration, empowerment came to both Timothy and Eli. Timothy found a way to dial-in to Eli's different channel, thereby breaching the previously challenging obstacle posed by his son's autistic proclivities. And Eli found a powerful mirror both of his robust, imaginative childhood and his renewed bond with his dad.

In this program, Timothy and Eli will present ECHOLILIA (this series of portraits) at Emory University School of Medicine, where the photographs will be exhibited through November.

This event is a collaboration between ACP and Emory University.
